Hajia Samira Bawumia is  the 2nd Lady of the of Ghana. She is regarded as one of the most inspirational, classy and stylish figures of Ghana’s young generation. Let’s find out more about her success story here.

She was born in 1980 as the only daughter of Ayesha Ramadan and the politician Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan. His father was the National Chairman of the People’s National Convention. Her older brother is a member of the National Democratic Congress.

She was a bright student from early ages. Samira Bawumia is a product of  Akosombo International School and Mfaintsiman Girls’ Secondary School. She also studied Law and Sociology at KNUST (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology)

In addition to her law degree,  she obtained an MBA. She speaks multiple languages, Ewe, Fanti, Twi, Mamprusi and Ga.

After graduation, she joined a beauty contest in Ghana. Although she didn’t win, she gained enough fame to become a presenter a lifestyle TV Show. 

She gives back to the community through her Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects. Her particular focus is to improve health, education and ensure gender equality and empower women.

Samira Bawumia has worked alongside the likes of late Kofi Annan, Rocky Dawuni and more. She is in favour of bringing awareness to pollution stemming from the use of solid fuels in houses, especially because there have been incidents of poisoning and casualties in the past. Hence, her promoting the use of cleaner and organic cooking materials.

The 2nd lady is married to the Vice President Dr. Mahamuda Bawumia

They are blessed four children.

As the Second Lady, she fought against corruption and human trafficking, and gave several speeches at conferences all over the world regarding Ghana’s issues.

Recommended Stories

She initiated a campaign called “Get Ghana Reading” and worked on supplying books for 17 schools across three regions in Ghana. She also facilitated the improvement of hospitals by supplying medicine and equipment.

For instance, she doesn’t take likely the lack of hygiene during the labor of pregnant women, for which she initiated a Safe Delivery Project to equip the rural hospitals. 

As a role model for young women and children, she strives for a Ghana with powerful and independent women who are intellectual, well-educated and in a state of well-being.
