Stories For Life 2021

Stories are narratives of series of related events which can either be imaginary or factual. They’re told or read to pick moral lessons that inspire our lives. Here are few short but very inspirational stories that can shape your life!

One day, a master instructed his unhappy apprentice to scoop a handful of salt in a glass of water and then taste it. Immediately he tasted, he spat, and the master asked how it tasted; he replied by saying “Awful”. Again, the master asked him to fetch the same amount of salt and put it in a lake and taste from the lake; he did, but he gave a suitable remark this time around.

He told his master he didn’t taste the salt. The master then sat beside the troubled apprentice and said, “the pain in life is like pure salt; neither a big pain nor small pain. Which means the amount of pain in life remains exactly the same. But the amount we taste in the “pain” depends on the container we put into.

Socrates met a young man who kept asking him about the secret to success at a riverside. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him in the river. As they were getting deeper, the river reached their neck. Surprisingly, Socrates carried the man and dunked him into the water.

The guy struggled and wanted to free himself, but Socrates was strong enough to keep him there until he found out the guy was turning blue, then he pulled him out. The first thing the guy did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. Then Socrates asked what he needed most when he was kept in the water, and the guy said “Air”. Socrates said, “that is the secret of success. When you want success as badly as you want air, then you will get it”.

Moral Lesson:

The starting point of every achievement is having a burning desire. This is because a weak desire cannot yield success.

Two guys were engaged in an argument in class, and both of them were convinced they were right but accused each other of being wrong. So, their teacher decided to teach them a very important lesson. The teacher placed her desk in front of the class and placed each at both ends of the desk. She then put an object in the middle of the desk, which had different colors on each side.

Basically, each of them would just see the color facing them. One side was black, and the other was white. The teacher asked each of them the color they see, and the guys could only describe just the colors from each viewpoint.

Moral Lesson: Sometimes, we need to look at the problem from the other person’s view in order to truly understand his/ her perspective

A 24-year-old boy seeing out of a train’s window, shouted…

“Dad, look, the trees are going behind” the father smiled.

A young couple sitting nearby looked at the 24-year old’s childish behavior with pity. Suddenly, the son exclaimed again.

“Dad, look, the clouds are running with us!” the couple who couldn’t resist said to the man. “why don’t you take your son to a doctor?” the man replied with a smile and told them they were just coming from the hospital; his son was blind from birth and had just got his eyes.

Moral Lesson: every single person on this earth has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them.

Thomas Edison tried two thousand different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked as they expected, his assistant complained, “all our work is in vain. We have learned nothing”.

Thomas replied very confidently, “at least we now know that two thousand elements cannot be used to make a good light bulb”

Moral Lesson: In life, mistakes are bound to happen but never look down on your mistakes. Learn from your mistakes!

Forceful Wet Nursıng In Slavery – This must be Thursday (History Day)

The earlier settlements and the colonialism accelerated the slave trade drastically because a labor force was needed for farming. The slaves had many tasks, mainly in plantations, to increase productivity. Because of the harsh working conditions, there were more male slaves on the field.

The female slaves served indoors for other purposes, from house cleaning to cooking. If there were many babies in the house, the female worker would have an additional duty: breastfeeding. Although it may not sound like a physically demanding job, it had horrible consequences physically and psychologically.

Believe it or not, most of the babies were not their biological children, nor were they adopted by them. They were their slave master’s wives children.

The concept of wet nursing in slavery emerged in the 17th century when wealthy white families started hiring black women of lower classes and paying them to breastfeed their babies. The ladies tried to avoid it because they wanted to maintain their body shape integrity.
In addition, breastfeeding was against their elegance and always deemed more suitable for uncultured low-class people. The claim of the doctors proving that breastfeeding is unhealthy was the cherry on top.

The act of wet nursing began in Europe and soon expanded into the New World. The unfamiliar geography in new settlement areas affected the immune system of the newborns, and many of them fell ill. On the other hand, the children of the black women were much more immune and resistant.

This was the driving reason for white families to force female slaves to breastfeed their children. Once the female slave gave birth to a child, they were forced to prioritize the white babies for breastfeeding. This left their children short of breast milk since it was all used up to feed the kids of the white families.

They had to feed their babies with cow’s milk or other substitutes to substitute for the milk. This resulted in an elevated death rate amongst the babies of the enslaved families.

The women did not have the choice to refuse breastfeeding other babies. In case they argued, they were threatened with the lives of their babies. Some slave traders and settlers would even kidnap or kill the newborn babies, so the slave-mother was left with no choice but to do wet nursing.
For the slave women to start producing milk, they were often raped by the slave masters and were told to keep quiet about it. This resulted in the birth of many babies of mixed race. Their husbands even rejected these women despite knowing that they were forced into it.

Wet nursing gradually vanished with the abolishment of slavery. However, some women continued doing it since they realized that they were earning more money as wet nurses than the freed slaves. The women who were wet nursing on their own were deemed the equivalent of prostitutes for not letting go of a traumatizing act from the past.

Forceful wet nursing has scarred the souls of many women and children – if they were able to survive, that is. So, it will always remain in our hearts as one of the most disgraceful aspects of the history of humankind. and as one of the numerous Museum Exhibitions in Cape Coast in Ghana reads

‘May those who return find their roots. May humanity never again perpetrate such injustice against humanity’

Pere And Maria BBNaija Relationship

Big Brother Naija continues weekly with lots of drama, and mixed emotions as contestants make intriguing and personal revelations.

The house in the past weeks has been exciting and fun with mixed reactions regarding Pere (Pere Egbi) and Maria’s s relationship. Fans are left wondering whether the romantic scenes the two were captured in has something to do with them outside the house.

While some fans wonder, others believe that they wouldn’t be surprised if Pere and Maria (Maria Chike Benjamin) are intimate in real life because they look good together. There were instances where the two were filmed emotionally attached, where the chemistry between them was very strong.

The pair’s relationship was so evident before the rest of the housemates. However, Pere was gradually drawing away from Maria, which seemed strange and out of character, and the housemates realised it and had to inquire why the sudden change towards Maria. He gave few reasons that Maria was indecisive and tried to tarnish his image before the entire housemates by falsely accusing him of what he didn’t do or say. Maria wasn’t forthcoming  about most of the things she said to him, and it was messing up his persona in reality.

More Entertainment GIST HERE

Again, he explained that Maria was trying to protect their relationship outside the house by playing the victim to create a positive perception about her in the public’s eyes to protect her relationship outside the house, which was the exact opposite behavior of her—adding that even when they had gotten intimate at some point, Maria came out to deny the fact that they were intimate, which he found annoying.

All these revelations had to pop up because Pere also denied that, the housemates thought he sounded emotionally unstable after Maria’s eviction. He went ahead to tell the housemates that he was trying to know Maria very well. Still, it turned out that Maria wanted to give the world a wrong impression of his personality even though he looks quiet and reserved in the house, which is his real nature.

Following Maria’s eviction, Pere has been acting soberly and was spotted dancing alone even at the house party on Friday and Saturday, making it so obvious that Maria’s absence affects him emotionally.

According to various reports from the house, Pere is now finding it difficult to connect with the rest of the female housemates. This is because Pere disclosed that Maria was the reason he couldn’t associate himself with any female because she was upset with him anytime he attempted despite acting like she didn’t care. Since he didn’t want to hurt her feelings, he had to maintain his loyalty.

That’s why he’s changed suddenly and was captured dancing alone since Maria had always been his dancing partner. Yet, Maria has relentlessly stated she doesn’t want to be friends with Pere outside the house. Though fans are saying they do look good together, it’s isn’t easy because they both have a relationship outside the BBNaija House.

A much as fans don’t want Pere to be evicted from the house, they believe he’s not very happy since Maria was evicted. Maria seems to have won the hearts of many. That is why even after weeks of her eviction, she is the most talked about contestant among the 15 evicted from the house fans are still talking about.

We can’t wait to see what happens when Pere is out of the house 🤔 . Do think Pere And Maria will be reunite as platonic friends?
