Attorney General Sally Yates fired for refusing to defend refugee ban

The acting Attorney General Sally Yates has been fired after she refused to defend President Trump’s refugee ban

The 7 countries affected by the travel ban are:

Syria (There is also an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees)

Iran

Iraq

Yemen

Libya

Sudan

and Somalia

Sally Yates Wrote:

“My responsibility is to ensure that the position of the Department of Justice is not only legally defensible, but is informed by our best view of what the law is after consideration of all the facts,…

At present, I am not convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities, nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful,” .  ~ Sally Yates

The White House said in a statement on Monday that “The acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States,” . “This order was approved as to form and legality by the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel.” and added that  President Trump has “relieved Ms. Yates of her duties”

Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, has been names as the acting attorney general.
