Akon is in partnership with Give1Project and ADS Global Corporation SA, has initiated the project “Akon Lighting Africa Project” tour which aims to bring electricity to one (1) million households in Africa by the end of 2016. The lack of electricity is currently a major problem in Africa. The Senegalese-American singer is believed to have secured $1 billion in a Chinese credit line towards his Akon Lighting Africa project.

A significant number of households in rural areas and even urban cities do not have access to electricity. The new project is termed “Akon Lighting Africa, Akon and team are working together to see that steady electric supply is sustained in Africa. Consequently, he has kicked off the project by beginning with his home country Senegal. Keep up the good work!

What is your favourite Akon songs?

“Black November” film is Written and directed by Jeta Amata, tells a  story of a  volatile, oil-rich Nigerian community wages war against their corrupt government and a multi-national oil corporation to protect their land from being destroyed by excessive drilling and spills.

To seek justice, a rebel organization kidnaps an American oil executive and demands that his corporation end the destruction and pollution. Inspired by true events, Black November is the gripping story of how a community rises up and takes drastic measures to make sure their voices are heard.

The films starts out with the image of a female prisoner and a noose that is presumably being fastened for her. The film then jumps to Los Angeles, California on the same day and what ensues is a hostage situation. The owner of a large oil company is being held captive by members of the “United People’s Front for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta People of Nigeria,” whose sole request is to free one of their fellow villagers, Ebiere Perema (Mbong Amata).

The “Black November” movie cast includes: Akon, Wyclef Jean, Vivica Fox,  Mbong Amata, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Mickey Rourke, Nse Ikpe Etim,  Kim Basinger,  Sarah Wayne Callies, OC Ukeje, Persia White and Anne Heche. Wyclef Jean worked on the soundtrack of the film.

Akon Lighting Africa project: Akon is expected in Rwanda today to promote his Akon Lighting Africa Solar Power Initiative The Senegalese-American R&B/hip hop superstar, who spent much of his childhood in Senegal has seen firsthand that Africa has had little help to try to remedy its electrical situation….

The Smack that singer will be travelling 10 African states with his business partners (Malian entrepreneur Samba Bathily, and Senegalese Thione Niang) to see what progress has been made on projects and to identify new areas for electrification so far.

The ‘Akon Lighting Africa project’, which has been in operation in less than a year has already launched initiatives in 14 African countries and aims to launch more in a further 11 countries by the end of 2016….
